My Role: Principal UX Designer
Project: Conceptualize and execute design overhaul of internal risk mitigation methodologies and software platforms leveraging modern technology implementing design standard components.
The Challenge
Legacy systems and antiquated processes hindered the ability for users to perform well. Inefficiencies in resources caused massive user abandonment and incited users creation of innovative side of desk methods to do their work. The most valuable resource became Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet. Risk mitigation processes and methodologies have not been updated to leverage modern technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. Leveraging AI for successful risk mitigation across lines of businesses requires an efficient data management infrastructure in order to effectively achieve ethically accurate data analytics.
The Process
Design Workshops
"Imagine a world where..." the most consistent phrase we heard. My team and I conducted over 13 different road shows and design sessions with several lines of business in the organizational risk department. Our goals were to effectively hone in on the needs of our users in order to accurately define our problem statements. As humans and great problem solvers our stakeholders were excited to begin solutioning..and as a student of humankind, I myself love finding the undiscovered pain point. We derived that better understanding of risk mitigation, taking action in mitigating risk and innovative preventative measures.
Simplify Risk
KNOW | DO | TRY"The birth of KNOW | DO | TRY" Smaller design sessions with line of business senior leadership and power users conducted to simplify the ability to access information on risk mitigation, taking action in mitigating risk and creating an experience that promotes the creation of innovative preventative measures.
Define Task flows and Wireframes
Evolution of Sub-Categories and Screen ExperiencesEvolving on the concept of, "Imagine a world where..," design sessions conducted with SME's of risk mitigation processes to effectively define specific needs and goals within each sub-category. Our iterative sessions were held in three full day sprints with each group of subject matter experts. Continued constant colloaborative efforts with our SME's along with first line users aided in the evolution of our screen experiences. Fast paced iterative ideation via whiteboards enabled us to fail fast and improve quickly. Task elements presented on each set of screens are prioritized according to metrics gained in surveys of risk managers job frequency ratings.
High Fidelity Screens
After several design sessions and workshops a high fidelity prototype was created and set the fundamental foundation which gained senior leadership support and momentum for a complete overhaul of software platforms and risk methodologies. The overhaul is in process and is strategically being executed based on priority with the creation of an API engine to effectively allocate data to provide the backend framework for essential design standardized front end experiences for our users.
Executives Love it!
Design overhaul in full effect with Senior Leadership Support.With executives and senior leadership support the design overhaul gained momentum and all lines of businesses and departments in the risk space wanted to be first. Our poster child pilot program began with the process of declaring whether there is a risky Issue or an Event, a universal process in which all lines participated in reporting situations that may be risky.
